The SLOAN! Review
Upon arrival the concierge was extremely attentive, taking our luggage, valet parking our car then returning the keys to our room with a tag showing the location of our car. They also gave us a tour around the hotel, gym, restaurants and spar area eventually returning to our room settling us in and pointing out how to use the aircon. The reception staff are upbeat and friendly which helps make the hotel feel less formal and more homely.
The room was a decent size with bath products from the White Company. The shower over the bath was adequate but not extraordinary, however the bathroom is less of a necessity when you have a spa a stones through away from your door. The spa is a haven of tranquility. When entering you are greeted calmly and professionally by staff who put your relaxation above all else. We were offered peppermint tea while we filled in our consultation forms and one of the male members of staff had an informal chat with us until our initial member of staff brought us our robes, poolside shoes and explained the facilities. There are quite a few areas to choose from and Sen Spa provides a map for you so you don’t miss anything. The standout features for me were the hydrotherapy pool, the health showers, and the tepinarium room which had fire stone beds in the shape of a Le Corbusier chair that were a delightful way to unwind. For the brave their is a ice shower room which come complete with ice chips and ice buckets. I did dare red to endure the room and he actually went back for more! For people who want to unwind there is a relaxation room with complementary teas, juices and water. You can also phone down to reception and for an additional charge you can order healthy food and smoothies from the Zen Garden. The spa also has a standard sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and has the added benefit of providing aqua aerobics, mind and body and yoga classes some of which take place in their on site studio.
We also indulged in treatments, inclusive of a facial and full body massage. They are well worth trying. The facial was more than just an ordinary experience giving hand, arm, shoulder and neck massage over 75 minutes, not only did i feel revitalized and glowing the knots of the day had melted away. Red’s massage also exceeded expectation giving the treatment area a definite thumbs up. We also suggest the mud treatment as we heard a couple of guests raving about it, unfortunately we did not have the time to indulge but we hope to be back one day soon. For those wanting a light lunch the Zen Garden offers a light lunch menu offering thai food or there is a french bistro menu for those who fancy something different. The Zen Garden does let people dine in robes.
We decided to try out Cambium the new on site restaurant which has been open a couple of months. We indulged in the tasting menu Careys manor sister hotel holds a Michelin star however their food rivals their “friendly” competition. The culinary artistry is meticulously planned from the textures on the plate to the complementing and contrasting flavours and of course the colours and presentation all the food was cooked to perfection with the kitchen going out of the way to accommodate the dietary requirements mentioned. The food speaks for itself do see the pictorial representation of the menu below.
