Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa provides an excellent balance for combining business with pleasure. The hotel is conveniently located for access to the M3 and M25, only 16 miles from Heathrow Airport and a 1 hour 15 minute train ride to Central London. Frimley Hall is also just 10 minutes from Royal Windsor and 10 minutes from Farnborough Airport.

You can check in for just the spa or spend the night. The spa is called Vitality and aptly name as is full of life and you get a very warm welcome. The pool area is a good size with a steam and sauna room that seats about six comfortably.

The relaxation room is upstairs and a perfect way to chill out and reach your inner zen either before or after your treatment.

The brand of choice here is Elemis and for one I love the Pro Quartz facial but today after working many hours at a computer this week decided to opt for a 30 min back massage. Which should be on every executives weekly treatment list. It released the knots and paired well with an after treatment sauna and swim.

The flexibility at Vitality is that all therapists are trained in the majority if not all the treatments leaving you the ability to change what you booked in so long as it takes the same time. The treatment rooms are a good size and nicely cosy.

Another treatment to recommend is the Exotic Lime and Ginger Glow. Perfect to relax or rejuvenate your skin. Good for men and women as my other half can attest. It lived up to its hype and left the skin invogarted, cleansed and polished to perfection.

For those wanting a spot of lunch the bento box is available at the hotel through the spa. A choice of chicken ceaser salad, tuna mayonnaise or a cheese wrap was combined with hummus, crudités, salad, fruit  and cake of the day which was banana cake.

There’s a polished restaurant and a relaxed lounge bar that serves an afternoon tea in the most luxurious surroundings – so for those who do not want unparalleled relaxation, an airy indoor pool, a steam room and a gym, plus spa treatments you can indulge in sugary goodness with the afternoon tea or take it up a notch and pair with a glass of champagne.

The bedrooms are warm, upscale rooms have flat-screen TVs, tea and coffeemaking equipment, and free WiFi. They also have delightful toiletries with the delightful and sleep inducing lavender and tea tree.

Rooms with 4-poster beds or sofabeds are also available. Upgraded rooms offer period features, Victorian fireplaces and garden views.

Suites have additional sitting areas. My only problem was the lack of plug points by the bed but there were 3 available sockets for laptops and phones by the desk on the opposite side of the room.

When we popped down, Frimley Hall was hosting a wedding fair and it’s no surprise that they do as they are set up perfectly for weddings. For a truly magical wedding, Frimley Hall even offers venue exclusivity, a wedding co-ordinator and some wonderful backdrops for your special day.

The Linden restaurant offers a fabulous selection provided by executive chef Michael Ball who runs a succesful restaurant at only 29.

He states of his food simplicity is key. That he likes to give the food the respect it deserves. This concept is evident from his culinary combinations which allow the flavours of the main ingredient to come through without being overpowered. Although simple these dishes are delightful.

We started with the scallops, basil milk gel, fennel and radish. Beautiful, light and cooked to perfection.

And the ham hock with fois gras. Fresh, light but a good size. Don’t fill up on the bread although scrumptious a simple selection of white, brown or tomato.

Linden Ham Hock
Moving to a meatier lamb rump cooked medium rare, succulent and flavourful this dish was a top choice. Served with a side portion of fries which did not appear on the menu but as our waiter told us it makes part of your five a day so why not!

We also sampled a lighter fish dish, sea trout with samphire and mussels. I was surprised it was served sans samphire and a replacement of spinach with no explanation. The dish still worked well apart from leaving me to ponder did my samphire take a holiday?

Linden Sea Trout

Who could resist the passion fruit parfait, coconut ice cream and mango. Worth every calorie but such a large portion not even my dining companion could help me finish the plate.

He highly recommends the pistachio mouse, blackberries and yoghurt ice cream.

Linden Pistachio Mousse

The restaurant is buzzing with a mixture of residents, dating couples and families. We sat next to a delightful couple clearly early on in their relationship he was aiming to impress and she was talking ten to the dozen. The wait staff were charming when he ordered for her asking for the Brill (which wasn’t on the menu) they helped move over his charming faux pas getting the right dish. Service was great when at your table but a busy restaurant left for less attention than sometimes needed.

Breakfast is also served in the main restaurant and comprises of a traditional menu, continental breakfast and a selection of fruits, juices and some highly calorific but yummy goodies.

Business executives needing space to reflect and plan will appreciate the secluded meeting and conference facilities on offer at Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa.
