Check Out Bath’s Quirkiest Boutique Hotel At No 15 Great Pulteney

No.15 Great Pulteney is Bath’s quirkiest boutique hotel, formed of three Grade I listed Georgian townhouses on Bath’s grandest street.

Behind the honeyed Bath stone façade, the hotel reveals 40 individually-designed bedrooms, a supremely chic cocktail bar, restful sitting rooms, a wonderfully individual café and a brand new spa – making it the perfect spot for an indulgent break in Bath.

There is plenty of art, intriguing collections and curiosities at every turn; dolls houses are home to tea and coffee making facilities, a larder full of goodies, and the fabulous with a menu presented as a deck of playing cards.

The Hideout Suite, has its own ‘spa experience’ bathroom with hot tub, stylish sitting room, dressing room, and dedicated Sonos system – the ultimate hideaway for a couple’s retreat.

What I loved about this hotel is as you walk in to reception and you look up there is a chandelier with bits of jewellery hanging from it. I was delightfully told that on opening week, local residents were asked to come and bring an earring or a piece of jewellery that needed a new home or part of a set that was no longer needed and they were stunningly hung from the Lost Earring Chandelier making it completely and utterly unique.

Uniqueness doesn’t stop there. The tables by the window in the restaurant are inlaid with costume jewellery, hairbrushes, miniature tea sets, fans and a stunning array of paraphernalia that keeps your attention and makes for the most beautiful photos.

This attention to detail is throughout the hotel. For expectant mothers, they provide maternity pillows and for those wanting a touch of quirkiness, your coffee and tea making provisions can be found in a dolls house within your room.

Toiletries in the bathroom are from Bamford and smell divine. This quirky boutique hotel is a must for anyone who wants something out of the ordinary.

Café 15 is the hotel’s wonderful restaurant space, open for delicious meals throughout the week and bottomless brunch on Sundays – served amongst the hundreds of apothecary bottles that line the walls.

An interesting menu with many small plates medium plates and large plates so you can have as much or as little as you want you can share tapas Style or stick to three standard courses.

We chose to share three starters. The cod goujons were soft and succulent and great for any fish lover.

The Cafe 15 take on a Scotch egg was was well cooked but had a nice soft centre however we would have preferred to see something a little more quirky in keeping with the beautiful surroundings of No 15. I would suggest something like venison and duck egg Scotch egg or maybe pork and black pudding Scotch egg to liven up this dish.

The chicken wings are an absolute must for those who want something slightly unusual. The molasses and pomegranate sauce really took a simple dish to another level.

For mains, there is a good selection of vegetarian choices and a lovely selection of fish choices however the meat choices seem to be limited to two beef choices and two chicken choices – some of which are quite small dishes. I opted for the steak and Cafe De Paris butter which is a must for any carnivore.

My dining companion opted for the Crab Mac and Cheese which is delightfully rich in crab but perhaps a little carb heavy for an evening meal.

Good choices for dessert or chocolate brownies and the sticky toffee pudding and we highly recommend the cocktails the bar manager has a secret technique in making the old-fashioned and dips his spoon into a special ingredient before staring we suggest ordering this and finding out for yourself.

Hidden beneath the pavements is No.15 Great Pulteney’s quirky new spa – inspired by the city’s heritage as a spa city.

Spa 15 has four themed treatment rooms, a large cedar wood hot tub within exposed stone vaults, a barrel-shaped sauna, and a separate steam room.

As the Natura Bissé Facial is too intense for pregnant women, we went for the 60-minute ila glowing radiance organic facial.

Using ila’s Glowing Radiance collection, this gorgeous organic facial begins with an aloe vera and pomegranate cleanse and a gentle blackcurrant and honey exfoliation, followed by powerful damascena rose otto and sandalwood oils to stimulate energy to skin cells. Specialised marma massage techniques restore natural luminance, while a green clay mask reduces inflammation to leave your skin glowing and radiant in equal measure.

With individually-designed and themed rooms and highly-skilled, experienced therapists offering ila and Natura Bissé treatments, Spa 15 is a true haven for relaxation with a unique personality.
