Del’Aziz is a prismatic Eastern-Mediterranean restaurant and cocktail bar with sites across London. The restaurant has an array of enticing flavours on offer: journey through North Africa’s bustling souks straight into the tangerine sun of the Mediterranean, or simply enjoy a taste of traditional Middle-Eastern cuisine.
We entered to the buzy tones of live music, which is delightful for a Thursday night just as the seasons are changing to Spring. Quite literally gave us a spring in our step and helped rejuvinate the senses after a long working day. For those who enjoy cocktails, head to the bar and sample some tastebud tingling drinks.
Del’Aziz has more to offer than just a bar, for those stopping off earlier in the day do spend you calories on their delightful cakes and traditional pastries. Give in to your inner-sweet tooth and try out some delicious handcrafted desserts made using the finest ingredients. This includes classics such as traditional cakes, meringues, baklavas and profiteroles or stock up for some delightful seasonal gifts and fine foods.
It is hard to walk passed the bakery as they have so many delightful options available but we kept focus on the main event as had been looking forward to trying out their traditional savoury dishes. My dining companion ordered a Turkish Beer but who could resist a sumptuous cocktail.
Along with the classics they serve Eastern-Mediterranean inspired cocktails such as the Long Moroccan Mint, Damascus Passion and the Alexandrian Rasputin. If you like your liquor with a kick then try the Spicy Fifty. The bar is a perfect place for after-work cocktails where you can sit back and chill out with co-workers and friends. The vibe will make you wish you could lower your inhibitions, let your hair down and dance on the tables but the stylish crowd inside remind you that this is a sophisticated yet relaxed establishment.
The Del’Aziz décor is modern Moroccan with wooden tables, olive green seating and features influenced from that part of the world. Shimmering chandeliers, pendant lighting and magenta-hued built-in seating add to the relaxed vibe. For after dinner drinks, head to the lounge where you can socialize around copper tables with some traditional shisha.
Executive Chef, Mahrez Loucal brings his Michelin-inspired touch to the kitchen having previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurant, Chez Bruce. His simple and delicious menu has something for everyone. For an authentic sharing experience there are a variety of Platters and Mezzes on offer such as the Braised Octopus, Walnut, Dill & Yoghurt.
Or get your hands sticky with some deliciously moreish Harissa chicken wings…
Or Prawns, Garlic and Coriander…
Just mouth wateringly delightful,
Or dive in to the mouth-watering Spiced Rack of Lamb with Pomegranate sauce, Batata Harrah and French beans. All their lamb dishes are delightful.
For a taste of Maghreb it was recommened we try the Chicken Tagine with preserved lemons, coriander, carrot confit, olives and steamed couscous but we had our eye on the lamb borek…
And the crispy squid, both delicious choices.
The portions are very generous so we decided to go for a sharing platter rather then 2 main courses. It was a board of meats galore from chicken shish, to merguez sausages to lamb cutlets and a khoobedeh lamb kebab.
Which looks good from every angle…
My dining companion could not wait to tuck in but I wanted to take just one more photo…
Served with the beautiful jewelled Perisan rice adorned with pomegranates and a generous portion of saffron in the cooking.
You can stick with potatoes if rice is not your thing
If you want to keep it simple then there are a range of tasty steaks and burgers to choose from. Or if you want to keep it more continental then there is a complete selection of charcuterie is also available to order. But make sure you save room for dessert… We chose the baklava
Lashings of honey and rosewater pastries in the form of a very authentic and yummy way to end off the evening.
If you’re just looking for some good food around London then Del’Aziz also has three other restaurants that have been rebranded. Located in Bermondsey, Clapham and Swiss Cottage respectively, they are another amazing way to get a taste of the Del’Aziz experience.
