Fiona Cairns has joined forces with Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity and is calling on the nation to whip out their whisks, preheat their ovens and take part in this year’s BIG Bake, to ‘raise some dough’ to help sick children in hospitals and hospices across the UK. Fiona, dubbed the ‘Queen of Cakes’, is urging the nation to join in Wallace & Gromit’s BIG Bake, supported by Homepride Flour, and host their own fundraising bake sale between 7th – 13th December, 2015 to raise much needed funds to improve the lives of sick children .
Best known for making the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s eight-tiered wedding cake, Fiona has also produced three fabulous cook books, whilst her own range of luxury cakes are available in Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Waitrose.
Fiona began her career by baking at home and for friends and family, and it remains something she is passionate about. Fiona said: “The work that Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity does to improve the lives of sick children in hospitals and hospices is beyond measure. With two wonderful children myself, I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it must be when one of your children is seriously ill. Whether you are an accomplished baker or a beginner, it is so important that we all do our bit for this year’s BIG Bake so we can raise more funds and support these families.”
Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity is asking people to take part in this time old tradition and join in the ‘BIG Bake’, supported by Homepride Flour, to help improve the lives of sick children in hospitals and hospitals across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Since 2003, Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity has given over £2 million in grants to almost 300 projects in 93 different hospitals and hospices, providing life-saving medical equipment, free family accommodation, a range of arts, music and play therapy programmes, sensory equipment and facilities and respite care. They are also the only children’s charity supporting sick children in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.
Fiona has donated three of her recipes in support of this year’s campaign: sticky toffee cupcakes, giant jam sandwich biscuits, and an allergen-free chocolate celebration cake.
