Spa Breaks – Daphne Metland

Daphne Metland is a medical and health journalist, who has worked across consumer and academic press. She is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, the Association of Medical Journalists and the Guild of Health Writers. She sits on the board of the International Journal of Birth and Parent Education and is the Editorial Director, Global Maternal and Child Health at BabyCenter.

Daphne was for many years a regular contributor to the travel sections of The Times and the Daily Mail. She was also travel editor on Family Circle magazine, editor of Parents magazineand has worked on Good Housekeeping and Homes& Gardens.

Daphne founded Good Spa Guide in 2006 after she visited a spa and had a terrible experience. She realised there was a need for objective, unbiased reviews of spas and treatments and so The Good Spa Guide was born. The company has since grown to become a platform for spa excellence in the UK and overseas.

Daphne also works with MAMA (Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action) and Facebook’s internet.org project on ground-breaking health messaging in India, Africa and China.  The mobile phone messages are used in 35 countries and reach up to 20 million women. The messages are tailored for women during pregnancy and the first year of the baby’s life on subjects including family planning, HIV transmission, childbirth and vaccinations.
