The right products and techniques can help to create a glowing and radiant look to enhance your natural beauty. delilah co-founder Rupert Kingston shares his expert tips for a fresh and youthful make-up look.
The secret to looking flawless is to perfect what goes on underneath. Rupert says “Primer will help to soften the appearance of imperfections, creating a smooth base to prepare the skin for makeup.” Under Wear Future Resist Primer (£34.00) is a silky smooth serum designed to allow make up to glide on more easily and last longer, whilst optically reducing the appearance of imperfections. Enriched with peptides to help improve the structure of the skin, the complexion will appear instantly plumped and smooth. Rupert recommends “applying a couple of pumps to the centre panel of the face blending outwards, paying attention to the corners of the nose which can get a little red, and the corners of the eyes where fine lines often appear.”
Apply just one pump of the Future Resist Time Frame Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF20 (£34.00) to the back of the hand and buff into the skin using the Foundation Kabuki Brush (£42.00). The foundation has a light, buildable coverage that adds a subtle luminosity and velvety texture. Work into the face and cheeks, blending outwards for a natural finish. For a radiant glow, be sure to apply a foundation that is warm in tone to lift the complexion and hide underlying grey tones. Rupert adds, “avoid concealers that are too drying, as they can settle into wrinkles and age the complexion. The Farewell Cream Concealer (£24.00) has a silky soft texture that blends beautifully whilst nourishing the skin.”
A Flush of Colour
When it comes to colour on the cheeks, anything too bold can be harsh. Instead, opt for gentle, more flattering tones to lift the complexion. Blend Colour Blush in Lullaby (£26.00) high on the apples of the cheek and up towards the ear for a flush of colour and an instant healthy glow.
On the lips, Rupert’s advises “avoid brown-based nude lipsticks which have a tendency to make the complexion look sallow. Be a little braver and pick a fresh pink like the Colour Intense Lipstick in Grace (£24.00) or for even more punch, a beautiful coral like Tango.” For precise application, apply using the Lip Brush (£24.00) building up layers of the product for stronger, more opaque colour. If a brighter lipstick makes you nervous, try a gloss such as delilah Ultimate Shine Lipgloss in Amalie or Siren (£22.00) for a subtle pop of colour.
Avoid heavy eye make-up which can be ageing and keep eyes looking fresh to create a lifted effect. Rupert suggests “stick to fresh, light-pink tones to brighten and enhance the eyes. Colours with a little shimmer can create a gentle glow without looking too made up.” Try Colour Intense Compact Powder Eye Shadow in Flamingo (£20.00) all over the centre of the lid for lighter, brighter eyes.
Well-groomed and defined brows frame the face to create an instant and youthful lift to the eye area. “Browline (£20.00) is a retractable brow pencil that is easy to use and the narrow nib is perfect for creating high definition eyebrows with a natural hair-like look. Use the built-in brush to comb the brow into place, then in short sharp strokes, fill in the gaps for a natural but well defined finish.”
