Jackson + Rye brings a taste of New York across the pond and onto the banks of the Thames with the opening of their new all-American restaurant, café and bar in Richmond. Head chef Akshay Sabharwal delivers an exciting Stateside menu to the people of West London.
Inspired by 1920s Brooklyn bars and Manhattan speakeasies, the stunning space exudes a moody sophistication with deep olive banquette seating and sage leather bar stools. Soft gold touches of hanging pendant lights and quirky desktop lamps glisten in the suitably situated mirrors which complement the dark wood paneling on the walls. Stateside signatures, cool cocktails and rare ryes, a taste of New York has opened in Richmond.
The SLOAN! Review
“Authentic food, music and atmosphere made for a superb evening. Friendly staff made this restaurant an absolute pleasure to review. It was easy to forget your surroundings and feel whisked away to the other side of the pond. The menu reflects both East and West Coast influences and for those who know their rye you have a nice selection to whet your appetite. A varied choice of starters followed by a classic selection of steaks, burgers and some well thought out dishes. If you have room I definitely recommend the chocolate sundae with the surprise popping candy or the Pecan Pie, both hit just the right spot.
For those on a diet they have a health conscious section of the menu as well. I noted that there was a superfood green salad and also some healthy juices including an avocado concoction which looked brimming with goodness.
What also impressed me about the restaurant is that for a fellow customer who had phoned in advance Jackson + Rye went and got a tomato soup and gluten free ingredients to accommodate the strict dietary requirements put before them.
An absolute must whether you are on a date, dining with family, catching up with friends or even having a business meeting. A hidden gem in Heron Square tucked behind the hustle and bustle of Richmond. The location is absolutely divine you can have a beautiful view of the river and in the summertime they are hoping to get outside seating making this the place to be in Richmond.”
Here is a sample of the delectable delights that tantalised our taste buds.
Breakfast + Brunch
Not just a place for lunch and dinner, check out their breakfasts too. Freshly blended juices and smoothies are perfect accompaniments for breakfast dishes such as buttermilk pancakes with crushed banana and maple syrup cream; avocado benedict with cured bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, watercress and grilled toast alongside delicious creamed grits with toasted almonds, berries and maple syrup.
An absolute must is the Jackson + Rye weekend brunch, available until 4.30pm. Set to become a West London institution with a ‘Bakery Corner’ filled with warm jalapeño corn bread; yoghurt & granola; a range of pancakes and popular pastries. There’s also an eggs menu with options that include the ‘Farmer’s’ of maple slab bacon, country style potatoes, sausage patty and spring onion alongside the ‘Baked Ham & Eggs’ with smoked country ham, cream and grilled toast.
Mix it up
Whether you like yours ‘straight up’, ‘on the rocks’ or in a cocktail, there’s an undoubtedly a fine selection of ryes on offer. From the popular Jim Beam and Woodford Reserve to the more exclusive Sazerac 18-year old and the 1512 Spirits Rye to name but a few; for whiskey enthusiasts there’s even a secret off‐menu library of limited edition bottles kept under lock and key in one of the stunning bespoke display cabinets.
The cocktail collection includes an excellent Old Fashioned and Manhattan, naturally, whilst other rye concoctions include the fruity Breakfast Sour of Buffalo Trace with lemon, apricot preserve and peach bitters to the rich and indulgent Black ‘n’ Rye with Rittenhouse, Kahlúa, coffee and sugar. Other delicious mixes include the sugar. Other delicious mixes include Lucky’s Highball with Appleton VX rum, triple sec, lime, bitters, and ginger beer, amongst others. Leaded shakes such as the Dark & Stormy Float and bourbon Pretzel Shake provide an excellent alternative whilst an international wine list, American bottled beers and guest draught ales also feature.
Jackson + Rye is open seven days a week from 8am to 11pm (9am Sundays) for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and everything in between.
