Lanique

Lanique is a liqueur spirit, made with Attar of rose – a pure rose essential oil created by steam distilling thousands of rose petals. Attar of rose is more expensive per kilo than gold. This ingredient gives Lanique a unique taste that combines with its 39% ABV strength to create a fantastic one of a kind drink.

Lanique BottleIt was first discovered and enjoyed over 200 years ago amongst the elite societies of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. It was a drink that was cherished and imbibed by the wealthy and titled elite at their celebrations and grand balls.

The drink had a unique flavour and colour and was completely natural. Its ingredients were sourced from exotic locations and included the coveted Attar of Rose from the East that gave it its unique nose and taste. The drink remained a firm favourite all the way through to the roaring 1920s, but disappeared with the Second World War and the rise of Communism.

Following the fall of Communism and the reopening of Eastern Europe, curators began to unravel the fascinating history of this exclusive drink. After years of work by dedicated artisans the long lost recipe was reborn and Lanique was relaunched.

The latest chapter in the Lanique story began when the current owner of Lanique, Jersey entrepreneur Lawrence Huggler, purchased the drink. The bottle and label have been redesigned to reflect the rich history and quality of the drink and now, Huggler’s aim is to introduce as many people as possible to Lanique, to let them discover its uniqueness and amazing taste as he did ten years ago.

Lawrence Huggler says, “I was introduced to this amazing drink in the summer of 2003. It was virtually unknown and was sitting quietly just waiting to be rediscovered. It took me eight years to wake up to the opportunity right in front of me and a further two years to broker the deal for Lanique. Since the purchase, we have redesigned the bottle and brand to reflect its rich history and are now working hard to introduce Lanique to new markets to share this amazing and delectable drink.”

Lanique is recommended to be enjoyed in seven different serves including Lanique & Tonic, Lanique & Soda or Lanique & Lemonade. The Lanique Signature Serve is the Lanique & Lime. This premium quality liqueur spirit is endowed with both heritage and personality making Lanique an inspired and versatile choice to add to your drinks cabinet or bar.

Lanique is £37.50 from Harvey Nichols and £27.95 from 31Dover.com
