Le Col has put all their technical knowledge into the development of the new HC Jacket – named their most sophisticated winter jacket to date. The HC Jacket is waterproof, windproof, thermal, breathable, reflective, aerodynamic & protective. It features multiple fabrics each with a specific technical role. This is the gold standard of Winter Jackets.
Here are our top ten features and benefits of the new Le Col HC Jacket.
1. Waterproof, Windproof & Thermal
The main fabric is a Schoeller-Dynamic “Storm Shield” fabric with a Windtex membrane. It’s windproof, water-repellent and waterproof and thanks to the Windtex membrane it protects & maintains warmth at the same time.
We love the fact that wind and rain is prevented from getting in and cooling your core body temperature yet at the same time moisture and heat are allowed to escape to eliminate sweat build up and the subsequent chill that follows.
2. Aerodynamic Stretch Fit with Reduced Drag
The main fabric is 4-way stretch and super lightweight to enhance the perfect fit. This is a jacket for active riders who are looking for performance.
We love the fact that the HC Jacket has an aero fit to maximise speed & performance by reducing drag. It fits like a jersey, yet protects like a jacket.
3. Kevlar Protection for the Rider & the Jacket
The HC jacket has Kevlar panels on the elbows to provide protection from abrasions and cuts in the event of a crash.
Elbows are one of the most frequent contact points in a fall so we love the fact that the Kevlar protection panels mean you will reduce your chances of serious injury.
We also love the fact that the Kevlar fabric also protects the jacket itself which means this top-of-the-range jacket is built to last.
4. Maximum Visibility with Unique Reflective Panels
Thermal waterproof reflective panels on the cuffs & shoulders which picks up any light and reflects it incredibly brightly to maximize rider visibility.
We love the fact that the panel placement clearly outlines the shape of a rider on a bike to any oncoming driver in a split second. The jacket also features the distinctive Le Col reflective stripe on the rear middle pocket for additional rear safety.
5. Maximum Breathability & Thermal Exchange
A textured ‘Roubaix’ material positioned under the arms to allow more heat and sweat to escape ostensibly moderating body temperature at varied riding intensities. A mesh lining further increases the wicking properties of the main jacket material.
We love the fact that the mesh lining ensures the HC Jacket wicks away maximum moisture while at high intensity riding. Also the textured Roubaix fabric is positioned under the arms means the jacket does not allow wind chill in as the wind hits you from the front but does allow the excess heat and moisture out – especially that which is created when you’re pushing yourself to the max during winter training even in very cold weather.
6. Widest Range of Temperature Coverage
Speaking of weather, the fabric is thinner and lighter than most competitor brands, making it appropriate for the widest range of temperatures from -10 to +12 degrees.
We love the fact that this new jacket can be worn as much and as often as possible rather than being kept just for the colder weather. At the end of the day, few of us choose to cycle when it’s below freezing with ice on the roads. However if you need to bump up the warmth factor, just pull on an undervest or jersey for the with right mix of layering.
7. Comfort Fit High Neck Collar
A high neck collar to maintain the unaltered micro climate of the body at the key entry/exit point with a specific soft fleece material to avoid irritation on the neck.
We love the fact that the snug closed fit ensures there is no entry of windchill down onto the chest or loss of body heat. We also like the fact that the soft fleece material on the jacket collar avoids any irritation around the sensitive neck area on full-on training runs.
8. Lock Down Zip
A full lock down Le Col zip with large ergonomic puller for ease of use with one hand at high speeds. The Zip will only open when engaged and locks into position when flat. We love the fact that the zip puller is ergonomically designed to be slightly bigger to ensure ease of use with gloves & cold hands at high speeds.
9. Tail Flap & Silicon Gripper
A dropped tail on the rear of the jacket adds extra protection from road spray in the wet conditions. With the rear extending lower than the front of the jacket, we love the fact that this protects the rear of your bibs without the jacket bunching up around the front. A silicon gripper at the waist hem holds the jacket firmly in place and an ergonomic cut also removes bunching of fabric during a fast riding position.
10. Five Technical & Practical Pockets
The HC Jacket features 3 Large rear pockets with mesh drainage, a 4th fully waterproof security pocket with zip and even an interior pocket. We also love the premium finish of the jacket with its high quality embroidered logos certain to last the lifetime of the jacket rather than those cheaper printed equivalents.
