Located directly on the seafront, atop the prestigious East Cliff of Bournemouth, Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa is a contemporary hotel offering some of the best views in town. We visited this modern Bournemouth spa hotel as part of our travels to discover Hidden Bournemouth and the relaxing spas located in this popular seaside resort.
This Bournemouth spa hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from seven miles of Bournemouth’s award winning sandy beaches and close to the lush public gardens, vibrant café society and bustling town centre of Bournemouth.
Decorated in a modern, rustic beach style with on-site Day Spa and Italian Café, this new concept Hotel & Spa offers visitors to Bournemouth a great venue to explore from.
Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa provides its guests with a unique resort experience in Bournemouth’s prestigious East Cliff neighbourhood.
Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa is also home to Oceana Day Spa – one of Bournemouth’s top ranking spa & wellness centres in the area.
The 64 guest bedrooms provide a mix of décor; from classic standard (yet to be upgraded) to modern premium bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and optional sea views upgrades. All rooms feature TV’s, hair dryers, toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. We stayed in one of the Premium Ocean Front rooms and were welcomed with a bottle of champagne courtesy of Nuno, the hotel manager of Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa.
Our room was furnished in a contemporary style with modern clean lines and a comfortable double bed. You can just about see our view across the road to the ocean.
The en suite bathroom was compact but was fitted to a high standard with a rainfall shower over the bath and a snazzy Hollywood mirror over the basin for that VIP look.
After unpacking, it was time to explore the surrounding area before returning to the hotel spa to indulge in the treatments on offer at the hotel’s OCEANA Day Spa where we were warmly welcomed by the spa receptionist.
My companion and I were looking forward to restoring balance and calming the mind and body at the hotel’s top-rated OCEANA Day Spa. This luxury Asian inspired Day Spa is a firm favorite in Bournemouth, with meticulous attention to detail and high standard of treatments, offering a full portfolio of beauty treatments to ensure you leave feeling in tip top condition.
I opted for the Sensory Journey Full Body Massage while my companion indulged herself with a Signature Facial.
After the blissful treatments we made the most of the spa leisure facilities before popping back to our ocean view room to get ready for the evening ahead. We dined at the more casual Italian Café which serves authentic homemade pizzas from the Italian Chef.
Accompanying the Italian pizzas which headline the menu are a selection of crowd-pleasing options such as sharing boards, pasta, paninis and other Italian delights. Italian Café is one of two dining destinations at the Ocean Beach Hotel and has views out to sea and a large outdoor Sun Terrace.
Check out the Vespa decorating the wall – it reminded us of that classic film Roman Holiday starring Gregory Peck and the lovely Audrey Hepburn.
The Italian inspired menu is served in Italian Café’s atmospheric venue, with friendly service, a wide selection of drinks and Italian themed cocktails. We began our culinary journey with a couple of those cocktails and a selection of starters to share. Notice Italy’s iconic Vespa scooter on the menu…
Joining the smoked salmon & avocado was a plate of Italian cured meats including salami, parma ham, mortadella, sun dried tomatoes, olives and mozzarella.
Having been given a masterclass in the art of antipasti by none other than Theo Randall himself, we know that you can’t enjoy Italian starters without plenty of bread… and we weren’t disappointed at Italian Café. Check out the bountiful supply of foccacia and flat bread with balsamic & olive oil for dipping…
For the main course we chose a delicious Tagliatelle Carbonara…
and a Seafood Linguine packed with prawns and juicy mussels…
For a sweet ending, we chose the Orange & Polenta Cake quirkly topped with a cape gooseberry – remember that when it comes to Italian dining, sharing is caring so offer your companion a taste of your dish to avoid a dining faux pas.
We also satisfied our gelato obsession with a delicious serve of this creamy Italian ice cream.
The next morning we were served a choice of Full English and Continental Breakfast buffet in the hotel’s Atlantic restaurant, a bright venue overlooking the outdoor Swimming Pool with its contemporary mural of the Dorset Coast. Located within the OCEANA Bournemouth Resort, guests at the Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa can benefit from additional resort facilities.
The indoor leisure facilities next door at The Suncliff Hotel provide an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, mini gym, and squash courts. The resort also includes outdoor solar-heated pools, Ventana 2-rosette Grand Cafe, The Overcliff Pub & Kitchen, Costa Coffee outlet and pizza delivery to your room from the Italian Café.
Free parking is available across the resort on a first come, first serve basis. Metered on street parking is available in front of the resort as an alternative. If you have a four-legged friend, please note that Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa accept small toy dogs however additional charges apply.
Our thanks to Nuno, Manager at Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa and his friendly team who looked after us wonderfully during our stay at this Bournemouth hidden gem of a spa hotel.
