Born from the whitewashed, sea-splashed vision of a ‘dreamer from Greece’, Onima brings the spirit of Mykonos to London. This ambitious hybrid of bar, restaurant, private members’ club and rooftop terrace is the singular vision of founder Alexandros Andrianopoulos.

Managing legends such as Nammos and Interni, Alexandros helped create a vibe that saw Mykonos become one of the world’s most sought-after destinations, before building success internationally for the likes of NYC’s Bathtub Gin and Bagatelle in Dubai.

Polished, stylish and flooded with natural light, the space is dominated by an imposing bar with sumptuous bronze details. Here you can lounge on comfortable, velvet-clad armchairs and sofas, surrounded by a regularly changing art collection that reflects the city’s state-of-mind. Chill out during the day before darkness falls and the atmosphere segues seamlessly into a more hedonistic vibe with the help of some of the world’s top DJs.

Once the headquarters of Cartier’s watchmaking empire, the five-floor Mayfair townhouse in which Onima resides is central to its story. Skilfully reimagined by leading Greek interior designers Archset, the sensory experience begins as you walk through the door and into the ground floor restaurant.

Onima sets the benchmark for entertaining in the city. Up on the first floor is a sleeker and sultrier side to Onima’s character. Here the design team has combined American walnut, burnished metals and fabrics in varying shades of blue, whilst colourful mirrors multiply the sense of space.

But Onima’s unrivalled offering doesn’t end there. Over the next few months this unique social hub will also house a private members’ club – with a range of complimentary privileges granted to its most loyal clientele – and the pièce de résistance, a stunning glass-enclosed rooftop terrace that will allow you to tower over Mayfair, admiring the sun, the clouds and the stars.

An elegant amalgam of Mediterranean and Asian flavours lives at the heart of Onima’s superlative menu. Satisfying and sublime signatures include Beef tartare with orange ponzu sauce, heritage tomatoes & celery; King crab salad with seaweed & caviar dressed with yuzu, spring onion & truffle and Pineapple carpaccio with cardamom, star anise & coconut panna cotta.

We soaked up the ambiance of the restaurant as we sat down to order from the many options on the menu. I ordered the grilled green asparagus with tofu mayonnaise and sesame dressing. The dish put asparagus centre stage and the fresh ingredients made the dish simple but simply delicious.

My dining companion decided to try something from the sea and went for the king crab salad with caviar, yuzu and truffle dressing. The dish was delightful with light being the operative word. This delectable dish brought the ocean to your taste buds with the subtle taste of crab meat balanced by the fresh burst of the caviar and citrusy yuzu which made this dish a firm favourite.

For the ultimate Instagrammable main course, we recommend the black burger with lobster tempura and spicy harissa-mayo. An innovative twist on the burger, the lobster tempura was light and fluffy whilst the black bun wasn’t too heavy and worked well with the seafood treasure contained within.

For those of you like me who love seafood, I would also recommend the roasted Large Langoustine from the Josper grill cooked over Japanese “Binchotan” charcoal. These are large by name and large by nature!

To finish we tried the Tiramisú with coffee mousse and Caffè Latte ice cream. Beautifully presented and the flavours delight the palate. A must for coffee lovers.

A delightful citrus surprise was the Reconstructed Lemon Tart. The dessert refreshed my palate as soon as my fork met my taste buds. Great textures and fantastic flavours!

Onima’s cocktail collection – spearheaded by the likes of Purple Rain, a beguiling blend of mezcal & grapefruit, cardamom, prickly pear, aquafaba & soda – mirrors the restaurant’s culinary coupling, effortlessly merging the familiar with more far-flung ingredients.

Onima is more than just a place to eat, drink and socialise; it’s a complete luxury lifestyle experience designed to captivate and deeply satisfy all five senses and is sure to become a go-to destination for languid lunches, after work drinks, late night revelry and everything in between!
