Piccola Cucina StartersHaving opened in October 2014, Piccola Cucina is a great little find in Notting Hill serving some of the best Sicilian seafood in London. With such an established community of Italian restaurants in London, it is often hard to find the rubies amongst the dust and Piccola Cucina’s understated appearance and relaxed ambience means that any one of us could easily pass it by.

Piccola Cucina has built up a great reputation in New York, Miami, Italy and Ibiza for serving deliciously authentic food in a homely, cosy setting. Aficionados include Michael Bublé, Vince Vaughan, Adam Sandler and Paris Saint-Germain player Zlatan Ibrahimović. Regulars to the London restaurant include David Cameron and David Beckham.

Piccola Cucina StartersIt’s a bit like eating very well in your own front room, if your front room is in a Sicilian stucco-clad house decorated with hand-made tiles and locally-crafted dressers. Piccola Cucina delivers one of the most authentic Sicilian menus in London with fresh food from Italy delivered daily to the restaurant to ensure true Italian flavours from the oil to the coffee, and the menu includes Sicilian, Italian and Mediterranean specialties including Tuna Tartare with Avocado; Grilled Involtino of Sicilian Swordfish; Pasta a la Norma with aubergine and tomatoes; Vermicelli with Mediterranean Lobster, and grilled meats. The wine list focuses on quality regional Italian wines from £25 upwards.

Piccola Cucina MainWe at SLOAN! magazine were excited when invited to review Piccola Cucina here in London. Having sampled their great cuisine across the pond in NYC the London branch had a lot to live up to.

Upon arrival we had a warm welcome with a calm ambience and light music in the background which made us feel at ease. After looking at the menu we knew we were in for a special treat.

Piccola Cucina PastaWe started with some cold sea starters to whet our appetite. We chose the Red Tuna Tartare with Guacamole and Crisp Bread and Seabass Tartare with Vegetables. The fish was super fresh and had a beautiful texture. We moved on to warm sea starters and chose the Swordfish Roulades with Cherry Tomato Stew and the Grilled Octopus Tentacles with Mediterranean Sauce. The dishes were very flavoursome and the octopus was amazingly tender and juicy. Our waiter told us that the method of cooking the octopus dish to perfection is a closely guarded secret and involves a very unexpected addition to the cooking pot.

Piccola Cucina PastaThe octopus was followed by Seabass in Lemon Sauce which was a vibrant citrus scented dish and Parmigiana with Black Aubergines which had an earthy flavour complimented by the sharpness of the parmesan on top.

For the pasta course we had Linguine with Blue Crayfish and Artisan Trofie with Red Shrimps and Basil Sauce followed by the fish course which included Tuna in a Pistachio Crust and a beautifully cooked Lemon Trout.

Piccola Cucina DessertDessert consisted of a delicious Tiramisu, a slice of zesty lemon tart and crisp creamy Cannoli which was the perfect end to our Italian dinner.

Overall, Piccola Cucina is hidden haven of Sicilian yumminess and one we would definitely recommend searching out for some of the best authentic Italian food in London.
