Despite it’s long name, Premier Inn London Southwark (Tate Modern) is not a long way away from the sights of vibrant trendy London. Located in the heart of the Southwark, just 4 minutes walk from Southwark tub station, it is also only 5 minutes walk from the Tate Modern and the striking Millennium Bridge that stretches across the Thames to St Paul’s. Premier Inn was named the UK’s top-rated travel brand 2016 and the top-rated hotel chain for 2016 according to Which?
The quick and easy check-in terminals make it literally quick and easy to check-in and there is always a helpful friendly receptionist on hand to welcome you to the hotel. Immediately adjacent to the deceptively small lobby is the Thyme Restaurant serving breakfast and dinner.
Open from 5pm to 10pm for dinner and 6.30am to 10.30am for breakfast, Thyme has a contemporary British menu with something for everyone. From gourmet burgers and steaks to salads and sweet desserts, we were told that the dishes are freshly prepared for you by the hotel chefs using quality ingredients from Premier Inn’s hand-picked suppliers. There is also a tasty kid’s menu to keep the little darlings happy.
We dined out on the evening of our arrival so can’t comment on the dinner menu at Thyme but you can’t argue that it is modern in its interior design and decorated in pleasing colours that are subtle yet striking.
The restaurant decor reflects the modern feel of the Premier Inn London Southwark (Tate Modern) just one of over 700+ hotels across the UK and Ireland with Premier Inn hotels also dotted around the globe in Germany, the UAE, India and South East Asia spreading the hotel group’s ethos of friendly service and great value.
Our room was surprisingly spacious for a budget hotel guest room and had a breathtaking view of the Shard out of the window. Like every room at Premier Inn, we were provided with a luxury kingsize Hypnos bed with a lightweight yet comfy duvet and a choice of firm and soft pillows. Premier Inn are so confident you will have a good night’s sleep that they guarantee it! If you don’t sleep well, they give you your money back. Premier Inn call it their Good Night Guarantee (terms and conditions apply).
The room also had a comfortable bathroom with powerful shower, Freeview TV with 80 channels, a convenient desk and chair, tea and coffee making facilities and very handy blackout curtains. Guests also enjoy free unlimited Wi-Fi throughout their stay.
After a pleasant night’s stay, we went down to sample the reasonably priced Premier Inn breakfast where guests can choose as much as they like from the Continental and Full Breakfast selections with unlimited Costa Coffee and other beverages like juices and a healthy smoothie. If you’re looking for a lighter Continental Breakfast to start your day there are fruits, yoghurts, cereals, and pastries with items such as Cinnamon & Raisin Bagels, Flapjacks, Mini Muffins, Crumpets and American Style Buttermilk Pancakes also on offer. For heartier fare, try the Full Breakfast which includes the usual eggs, bacon, sausages and beans with additional options like black pudding, bubble & squeak and hash browns to choose from.
