As HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle put the finishing touches to their wedding preparations, the team at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London’s historic Whitehall have also been busy, creating an extra special afternoon tea to commemorate the happy couple’s special day.
The Royal Horseguards is a classic 5-star luxury hotel situated on the banks of The Thames river overlooking the iconic London Eye. The hotel is located in a Grade I listed building with stunning architecture modelled on a classic French chateau.
It’s the perfect setting for the new Transatlantic Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea which takes inspiration from both sides of the pond, bringing together the very best cakes, sweet treats and sandwich fillings to celebrate both Harry and Meghan’s heritages.
From red velvet cupcakes to mini pecan pies, Victoria sponges and blueberry cheesecakes, the sweetest layer of the afternoon tea stand is filled with delicate mouth-watering treats that also look the part too, with flourishes of golden crowns and stars and stripes.
The savoury tier includes sandwiches filled with London smoked salmon and cream cheese, classic cucumber and sour cream, honey roast ham and mustard, Parma Ham and gherkins and crayfish with Marie Rose sauce.
Completing this special afternoon tea is a selection of traditional handmade sultana and plain scones, served with lashings of Devonshire clotted cream and sumptuous strawberry jam. The Transatlantic Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea will be served with a choice of freshly brewed loose-leaf teas, including the Royal Horseguards signature Strawberries and Cream tea, as well as a glass of Taittinger champagne to raise a toast to the newlyweds.
General Manager of The Royal Horseguards Hotel, Ian Fletcher, said: “We wanted to create something extra special to mark the Royal wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and what better way than a transatlantic twist on the Great British traditional afternoon tea? We’ve taken inspiration from classic dishes from both America and the UK and brought them together in a marriage of flavours that complement each other perfectly, much like the happy couple themselves.”
The mixologists at the hotel’s Equus Bar have also created two new cocktails to mark the special occasion, the American Beauty made with Makers Mark bourbon, blackberry jam, lemon juice and orange bitters, and the British Glory made with Plymouth sloe gin, apricot liquor and lime juice. Both Royal Wedding cocktails are available throughout May for £12.95 each.
The Royal Horseguards Hotel Transatlantic Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea is available until 31st May 2018 and costs £39.50 per person. For bookings, please see details below.
