Skin needling is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that enhances the skin’s ability to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, with minimal recovery time. Here at the magazine, we heard that skin needling was an effective aesthetic treatment for acne scarring so when we were invited to review Courthouse Clinic, we asked during the consultation to try their Skinrölla skin needling treatment.
What is Skinrölla?
Skinrölla is a specially designed device dramatically increases production of the skin’s natural components such as collagen and elastin, creating younger looking skin. It works on the deeper layers of the skin, naturally stimulating collagen production, leading to longer lasting, more dramatic results. The precision engineered micro needles penetrate through the epidermis and pin prick the dermis, inducing the skin’s natural healing response. This leads to new collagen formation and tissue remodelling which can help reduce fine lines & wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage and stretch marks.
How does Skinrölla work?
Skinrölla is a slim, rotating barrel with micro-needles in precisely distributed rows which dramatically increases production of the skin’s natural components such as collagen and elastin, creating younger looking skin.
It works on the deeper layers of the skin, naturally stimulating collagen production, leading to longer lasting, more dramatic results. The precision engineered micro needles penetrate through the epidermis and pin prick the dermis, inducing the skin’s natural healing response. This leads to new collagen formation and tissue remodelling which simultaneously improves the appearance, pigmentation and texture of the skin.
What else does Skinrölla treat?
In addition to treating acne scarring, Skinrölla is perfect for fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, sun damage and pigmentation issues. There is no downtime or permanent side effects associated with the treatment. After the procedure, the skilled medical aesthetician devised the most appropriate treatment programme for dealing with my particular skin concerns. What I like best about Courthouse Clinic is that treatments are built around the individual client’s needs rather than taking a one size fits all approach seen in clinics that are “less than”.
Does it hurt?
The Skinrölla treatment is not particularly painful although some areas can be more sensitive than others such as under the eyes. About 30 minutes before the procedure I applied a topical anaesthetic lidocaine cream to my face quite thickly to numb the area. I found a second application of lidocaine cream after about 15 minutes ensured optimal comfort by really numbing the skin.
What about side effects?
There are virtually no negative side effects as the tiny channels made in the skin by the micro needles close within an hour, and provided the procedure is performed under clinical conditions infections are highly unlikely.
I experienced a temporary reddening of the skin and a sensation similar to mild sunburn which ;lasted about an hour. The inflammatory reaction of the skin is short-lived and fades significantly from redness to a pinkish hue within hours, remaining pink for a day or so. For me, the redness lasted about 48 hours after the first treatment but significantly improved after subsequent treatments, only lasted a few hours after the fourth treatment.
I found using Medik8 Ultimate Recovery cream helped reduce visible redness and promoted more rapid healing. Kimberley applied this to the skin after each procedure and I also used it at home for the first couple of days after each treatment.
Why combine skin peels with Skinrölla?
Skin peels in between Skinrölla sessions will help with wound healing, encourage the skin to exfoliate better and increase the amount of collagen produced this supporting all the benficial effects of the skin needling treatment. The lactic acid in the peels create a wound healing response in the dermis layer of the skin stimulating the GAG cells that create the anti-aging skin components, collagen and elastin. It will help heal scars and reduce pigmentation in addition to balancing the oil in the skin. Lactic acid and glycolic acid also stimulates the natural exfoliation enzyme in the dermis so the skin sheds dead cells more effectively, therefore creating cleaner pores by reducing excess sebum and eliminating the bacteria in the skin that create break outs and whiteheads. Once the pores are clean and clear of oil and bacteria they will naturally shrink which effectively minimising the pores so they look smaller. Salicylic acid works on the top layers of the skin breaking through oil and dirt on the surface of the skin and in the pores which helps to regulate sebum production and eliminates blackheads and blocked pores.
The Remarkable Results of Skinrölla
The results were remarkable. After six treatments of Skinrölla I achieved permanent reduction of scarring by about 70% especially on my cheeks which had the deepest scars. My skin was visibly smoother and plumper with the acne scars much improved. The course of 6 peels in between my Skinrölla treatments ensured that my skin was exfoliating at an optimal level and creating more collagen and elastin than if I had just tried Skinrölla on its own. Although the Skinrölla procedure does produce great results, I would recommend that anyone looking at dermatological solutions to issues like acne scarring should opt for a combination of treatments – such as Skinrölla, skin peels and maybe even Omnilux light therapy. Your medical aesthetician will be able to recommend the best options for you that safely give you the best results in the fastest possible time.
Based on my experience of Skinrölla at Courthouse Clinic, I would highly recommend skin needling for anyone suffering from fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and especially acne scarring.
