Much acclaimed in the Victorian era for its pine-scented air and medicinally beneficial sea water, Bournemouth’s reputation as one of the UK’s original spa resorts is no secret. Perhaps not so well known is the abundance of clifftop and beachfront hotels that offer wellness breaks and treatment packages in the 21st century.
Travelling to the coast for its clean air and health benefits has long been a tradition in the UK and, indeed, is how Bournemouth flourished in the 1800s. Today, the seaside destination offers a multitude of venues for much needed R&R, cementing the comprehensiveness of the town’s offer in the modern era. The 172-room Hilton Bournemouth is housed in a soaring glass structure offering panoramic views to the coast and across the popular seaside town.
Many of the big hotels in Bournemouth have been running spa packages for a number of years but the recent addition of the five-star quality eforea spa at the new Hilton Bournemouth has helped to render it one of the country’s wellness top spots. The spa features a pre/post treatment relaxation lounge and four treatment rooms with an extensive wellness menu. The health club offers a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness suite, steam room, sauna and a heated 20-metre indoor pool in addition to a salon. Everything you need whether you wish to be invigorated, relaxed or revitalised.
Guests at eforea spa can look forward to services that focus on balance and wellness as they embark on transformative journeys of the senses to help them emerge relaxed, rejuvenated and ready to face the week ahead. The journey layout begins at the arrivals lounge, then moves through to the changing lounge, then the transition lounge, before entering the thermal lounge, and on to one of four therapy rooms for your treatment after which there is an opportunity to take home some spa magic with purchases from the retail area.
Signature spa journeys include the Essentials Journey, the Escape Journey and the Men’s Journey with journey enhancements for head & face, shoulders, neck & scalp and last but not least, feet. We were treated to a blissful Elemis facial before continuing the indulgent mood with dinner in the hotel restaurant Schpoons & Forx, created and overseen by renowned chef and broadcaster Matt Tebbutt, offers guests the very best of British cuisine with a contemporary twist.
Like the rest of the hotel, Schpoons & Forx blends classic design with quirky innovation which is central to the Hilton Bournemouth’s aesthetic. The bespoke interiors and furnishings throughout the hotel have been designed exclusively by Ray Kelvin. We love the spoons and forks installation in the eponymous restaurant.
To start I chose the Beer Battered Monkfish Scampi with Tartare Sauce & Lemon.
My dining companion enjoyed the Wild Mushrooms on Toast with Deep Fried Camembert.
Moving on to the main course, I went for the Beef Cheeks with Bourbon Glaze served with Parsnip Puree and Parsnip Crisps.
My dining companion decided to go for one of the specials – Sea Bream with Mashed Potato and Capers.
Accompanying our mains was a moreish plate of “scraps” which were delicious chunky chips cooked in duck fat that take the humble potato to a whole new level!
To finish I chose a delightful dessert of Lemon Cream with Coconut Meringue and Rum Syrup.
While my dining companion indulged his love of peanuts with the Peanut Parfait with Chocolate Cream and Nougatine.
Whether you come for the British menu by TV chef Matt Tebbutt or for some well-deserved R&R at eforea spa or both, Hilton Bournemouth is the perfect place to uncover one of Bournemouth’s hidden gems and makes for the ideal romantic weekend break, a great girlie getaway or perfect pamper day away from home.
