Located in the heart of the Square Mile in the new Cannon Green development, The Listing by Drake & Morgan brings an everyday escape with a touch of on-trend industrial chic to the city. This elegant, designer-conscious contemporary bar and restaurant is the City’s latest hotspot and ideal for those forthcoming festive flings as well as business breakfasts, light lunches and evening drinks with nibbles.
First to draw the eye is The Listing’s dramatic double height glass windows, which allows natural light to flood the space. Inside, it’s all luxe natural materials like marble, leather, rich walnut, oak and antique brass and tranquil, soothing colours, creating an oasis in the heart of the city.
The focal leather clad bar curves through the space wwith ‘infusion’ and ‘indulgence’ counters, dedicated to mixology, wine and food tastings whilst the restaurant area is dominated by the open kitchen and dining-counter.
Sliding doors lead to a year-round al fresco terrace complete with planters, palm prints and botanical-inspired lighting.
Expertly mixed and muddled by London’s best mixologists, The Listing’s signature cocktail collection has a serve to suit every occasion. Seasonal hot toddies just made for winter include the Bubbling Buttered Rum, a rich and warming mix of Pampero Aniversario rum, vanilla syrup, ginger, cinnamon and butter and Whisky & Spice & All Things Nice with Jameson whisky, ginger, lemon juice and honey.
New wine flights will also be served with both ‘Easy Drinking’ and ‘Discover’ selections of red and white from across the globe and, for those who prefer the grain to the grape, a selection of craft beers and lagers are available on tap and by the bottle.
The all-day menu features stylish small plates and sharing boards, perfect for light lunches and leisurely afternoon meetings. Healthy salads and more substantial mains are also on offer, such as seabass with braised fennel, spinach and chorizo, Waygu burger with blue cheese and chutney perfectly paired with Drake & Morgan’s famous fries, and roast cauliflower and pesto fettucine.
To whet the appetite we started with Smoked Almonds in Maldon Salt and a beautifully presented warmed loaf of Sourdough with salted English butter joined by the alternative of olive oil & balsamic vinegar which makes a welcome change for those of us who are dairy intolerant.
Starters run the gambit from traditional British to Asian inspired small plates. For those indecisive amongst us or if you simply fancy a choice of flavours, we suggest going for the Lucky Dip option which allows you to choose 3 starters for £17. We went for the Chicken Satay, Scotch Egg and Salt & Szechuan Pepper Squid.
The chicken satay comes with a delicious peanut sauce that’s so good you will be going back for more. The sauce also complements the crispiness of the chicken which seems to be served fried not grilled so was perhaps not as succulent as one would like.
The Salt & Szechuan Pepper Squid had a wonderful combination of flavours but again were a tad overcooked for our liking.
The Scotch Egg had a meaty robust flavour and good texture to the sausagemeat. The egg was perfectly cooked – not too runny with just the right amount of jiggle to the soft yolk.
Joining the starter dishes we enjoyed a couple of interesting cocktails including the Candy Shop made with an intriguing Rhubarb & Custard liqueur followed by the ever-popular Porn Star Martini. The Listing also have a great selection of mocktails that raise the bar for interesting flavour combinations like pear and ginger.
For the mains we ordered the Rib-Eye steak which came cooked to medium-rare perfection accompanied by a side order of Roman Truffle & Parmesan Fries.
For an equally hearty dish that’s perfect for the colder months, we recommend the Beef & Ale Pie – although the filling is pure meat so you may wish to order extra gravy on the side.
For dessert, you can rely on the Chocolate Brownie to end your meal on a sweet and fudgy note.
A popular winter dessert and a larger dish for big appetites is the Mixed Berry Crumble which had the right proportion of crumble to filling and the berry and apple filling was also the right balance of tartness and sweetness.
Available from 7.30am, early risers can enjoy fresh coffees and pastries alongside larger dishes such buttermilk chicken and waffles with avocado, sour cream, jalapenos and chilli maple syrup. Start the working day right with a Sweet Greens juice, a blend of kiwi, pineapple, cucumber and orange, or a Golden Mango with mango, turmeric, yogurt and almond milk.
Open Monday – Friday, The Listing is also available to exclusively hire for parties and celebrations over the weekend. With its stylish, botanical-inspired interiors and renowned Drake & Morgan touches throughout, the group’s latest venue is sure to be the go-to hotspot in Cannon Green.
