Five Underrated Ways to Complete Your Look

It’s no secret that first impressions matter. But when was the last time you performed a reality check on the image you present the world? If it’s been a while since you changed-up your look, you might want to make a few simple modifications or updates to your routine. We’re not talking about total image makeover, here. We just want to explore a new product, accessory or style that can build off what you’re already working with – something that will complete your look.

Men’s fashion expert Matthew Langley, General Manager of Charles Vane, takes a look at five simple ways to complete that bold and confident look you’re hoping to present to the world.

1. Get a Haircut & Shave

A new haircut and shave are a refreshing way to completing your look. A professionally styled cut can go a long way – and can become your unique statement. A different shave can redefine the entire contour of your face and reveal a confident you. Don’t be afraid to ask your stylist what cut would be a great finishing touch to your look.

2. Add a Watch

While you can easily check your smartphone for the time, adding a watch adds volumes to your look – not to mention, the style is timeless (no pun intended). Whether your look is formal or athleisure – a watch is a statement piece that can upgrade any outfit and there are so many to choose from.

Watches can fit any personality type: Are you a techie? Go with an Apple watch. Environmentalist? opt for a wooden watch. More classic? Choose a timeless silver watch. A watch sets you apart from the person always fumbling around, looking for the time on their phone.

3. Socks

Socks are a unique way to showcase your personality in your wardrobe. It can also be a lot of fun. Choose socks that reflect your interests, e.g. sewn in images of putting greens or your favorite dog breed. If images aren’t your jam, you can opt for a colorful pattern that will pop whenever your pant leg exposes a peak at the true you.

4. Skincare

Most of us apply moisturizer after drying our faces with a rough towel. Skip the towel. Let your skin begin air drying and then apply moisturizer while the skin is still moist. This is a game changer and is sure to give your skin a new sheen.

5. A Winning Smile

Whiten up that smile with a simple mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. It might not taste as great as some of the commercial whitening pastes out there, but it’s effective and most dentists don’t have a problem with the practice. The difference for smokers and wine drinkers is especially dramatic.

Like it or not, we are often judged based solely on our looks – whether it’s meeting a new client for the first time on a sales call or a potential life-partner you just agreed to meet for a drink after messaging on a dating app. Repetition can be boring. So be sure to update your image every few months and don’t be afraid to switch things up with a new accessory or style that’s sure to complete your signature look.
