The Gainsborough Bath Spa

The Gainsborough Bath Spa occupies two 18th century Grade II Listed buildings with distinguished Georgian and Victorian façades that were originally built as the Royal United Hospital and Bellott’s Hospital in the heart of the World Heritage Site.

The hotel’s refurbishment included the main wings of The Gainsborough building, the construction of a new wing on Lower Borough Walls and the redesign of the neighbouring 17th century Bellott’s, linked to The Gainsborough by a newly formed underpass.

The Gainsborough Bath Spa is the only hotel in Bath to be included in the Leading Hotels of the World family of iconic and legendary hotels. The affiliation verifies that the hotel meets a demanding set of quality standards which serve as the benchmark for the luxury hospitality industry, putting it in the company of some of the world’s best hotels.

The 99 custom furnished guest rooms and suites subtly references period details combined with contemporary forms. The accommodation is inclusive of standard five star amenities from luxurious bedding and generous wardrobes to cordless phones and full black out window coverings.

Standard features and services in all rooms and suites include Flat screen HD television, iPod docking station, Roberts radio with Bluetooth connectivity, Radiant heated bathroom floors, Complimentary WiFi, Tea and Nespresso coffee making facilities, Complimentary minibar, Asprey toiletries and 24 hour room service.

Tapping into the original thermal springs, Spa Village Bath offers a contemporary perspective on the city’s thermal water heritage. Coupled with the historic use of aromatherapy in Great Britain, this spa gently supports the brand’s philosophy of honouring the healing traditions of the region. In recognition of its spa heritage, the award-winning spa group with its Malaysian origins also presents select signature therapies from the original spas in its collection.

Centred around Spa Village Bath and, uniquely in the UK, The Gainsborough Bath Spa has the exclusive privilege of having access to the natural thermal waters. Believed to have come from rain falling approximately 10,000 years ago which seeped to two kilometres beneath the earth’s surface, the water is continually heated by hot rocks before rising up through the three famous hot springs in the centre of Bath, including the Hetling Spring that supplies the mineral-rich water to The Gainsborough Bath Spa.

The Bath House experience enables guests to ‘take the waters’ in luxury. Guests will begin their visit with a circuit that includes dipping in two natural thermal pools of varying temperatures, traditional and infrared saunas, a steam room, an ice alcove and elegant relaxation areas. Spa Village Bath integrates the treasured waters of Bath with private aquatic body therapies and classic treatments that focus on personalised aromatherapy.

The serene environment of the spa is bathed in natural light emanating from the four-storey glass atrium perched above the Bath House. Located over two levels, Spa Village Bath also features 11 treatment rooms which include a couple’s room.

There is also a VIP Suite with private natural thermal waters, two tatami rooms designed especially for the award-winning Asian therapies, and a beauty salon. Guests can satisfy their daily workout needs in the 24 hour fitness room.
