Everybody has a message that they want to get out into the world. I’ve found the clearest route, making the most of your precious time and energy, is through writing a book and getting it into the hands of those that need to read it!
Through personal experience as well as working with clients who’ve maximised their impact and boosted their businesses through a best selling read, I couldn’t stress enough the benefits that come with releasing a book.
Connect to a Mass Audience
If you want to make a real difference in this world, it’s a widely accepted fact that you need a bit of clout, some credibility. When they need a fact or a source, everybody wants to ask the person who wrote the book on it. So, when you’re viewed as the ‘best selling author on insert your topic’ rather than someone who just has a couple of blog posts to offer, you’ll have instant credibility in your niche. If you don’t already have a business linked to the topic you want to write about, I strongly recommend that you launch a program or a service that you can lead your readers into after they finish your book. People will start filtering through as your visibility increases and presto – you’re connected to a mass audience.
Since releasing Passion to Freedom, mind-blowing things have happened for me. The doors it has opened taught me that a book’s value is way more than the income you get through sales alone. Used in the right way, it can attract massive media coverage. If you already run a business, it will drastically improve your chances of taking it to new heights. If you create a program or service leading on from your book, you could be looking at a huge increase in income. Think of it as someone working for you when you’re taking a break with the kids or lying on a beach. Your book could be out there on the other side of the world promoting and selling for you, even while you’re asleep!
Convert Multiple Readers
Every pair of hands that picks up your book and cracks its spine is a new possibility. Something about your image or message has spoken to them in a way that you now need to run with. Think about the last book you read, whether it was some fantasy epic or a smart thinking guide. Whoever wrote it rewarded your curiosity from the first page to the last and probably left you hungry for a follow-up.
Publishing a book is your chance to create a path for your target audience to find what you want at the end, whether it is a tantalising sequel or a call to action to take the next step and work with you, if you intend to give them that opportunity.
Synthesise Your Message
The creative process will take a hell of a lot of hard work but this graft does more than make you shed some blood, sweat and tears. Through revisions and refining, the writing process is going to evolve your message. You’ll have a clearer understanding of your own mission and hopefully so will your readers. Now that can be quite cathartic, not to mention the sense of achievement. Seeing your book at that number 1 spot is a sensation second to none.
If the fire is your ambition, then that feeling is certainly the fuel.
Open up Media and Speaking Opportunities
Before inviting you onto that ITV or putting you on stage in front of hundreds of people, the organisers will need to be sure that you are the real deal or their reputation is at risk.
They will be introducing you as the expert and so, if they invite somebody on who isn’t who they’ve made themselves out to be on social media (which, let’s face it, is easy to do) the show will fall flat when the so-called expert doesn’t match their expectations.
If you have written a book on the topic, there’s no doubt that you are, in fact, an expert. If your book hits the bestseller list, that amplifies it again.
And, think about it, they want to excite people when they announce their guests. Which sounds better when creating a buzz? “And next, we have personal trainer, David Jones” or “And next, we have personal trainer and best selling author of Get Lean in 6 Weeks, David Jones”
